Silver Pyrite Lump
I was recently in Colorado performing and I just happened to be in Denver at the same time as the worlds largest Crystal and Gem show was taking place. I decided to take a peek and I’m glad I did....as I found some really interesting things and probably the coolest thing was these lumps of pyrite. It looks and feels like solid silver. It is metal!
Pyrite is a natural element that is found on the earth that looks just like a lump of silver. In fact I was joking with Todd Lassen and we both agreed that it looks more like a lump of silver then a lump of silver actually does.
It’s naturally shiny and reflective and has a beautiful mirror like finish.
If you’ve ever performed the classic trick “silver extraction“ by Dr. Zola. This is the perfect lump of silver for that effect. Basically you apparently heat up a coin so much that you are able to extract the silver out of it leaving you with just a lump of silver and a clear coin.
Unfortunately due to the lack of a convincing “clear coin“ this trick can sometimes come off as a little corny or “cute“.
But by using just the lump of silver or pyrite you can actually turn this into a very believable piece of magic.
Here is coolest part......because of the natural shape of the pyrite.....it’s very easy to shove a small piece of flash paper into it. And this can create an AMAZINGLY VISUAL moment of magic......you’ll have to watch the clip to see!!!!!!
I carry the lump with me at all the time now. And I perform a really cool flashy effect where I take a coin and I apparently heat it up so it bends.... stretches.....and then eventually melts into a small blob of silver that I can pass out for examination.
Everyone always “oooohs and asaahhhs“ over the lump of pirate because it’s such a beautiful piece to look at.
